About us:

The Sunshine Coast Botanical Society, formed in 2002, is a provincially incorporated not-for-profit organization.  Our mission is to collect, propagate, and maintain plants, primarily of the Pacific Northwest, for the purpose of education, conservation, display, and enjoyment.  Our vision is for a diverse botanical world where people and plants thrive.  We are seeking a visionary and experienced Executive Director who will lead us as we continue to grow.  If you are passionate about leading a growing not-for-profit and have the leadership skills to turn big ideas into reality, we want to hear from you.

The Opportunity

The Executive Director position is a key leadership role. The successful applicant will be responsible for the overall management of the Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden: Providing vision, guidance and practical support in the implementation of the organization’s mission and strategic plan, while managing day-to-day operations, and promoting a culture of inclusivity and collaboration within the organization.  Key focus areas for the Executive Director include:

  • Strategic Leadership: Work with the Board to set and maintain the strategic direction and lead the organization to meet its goals.
  • Fund Development: Support the Board and the Fund Development Officer and Committee in their fundraising efforts.
  • Operational Management: Oversee daily operations, including budget development, financial reporting, and staff management.
  • Community Engagement: Act as the face of the organization, building strong, lasting relationships with partners, donors, and the community.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 3-5 years in a not-for-profit management role. Horticultural knowledge and experience is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Leadership:  Demonstrated success in leading teams, empowering staff, and managing change.
  • Skills: Strong leadership, supervisory, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Competence: Proven ability in financial management, including creating and monitoring budgets.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred (or equivalent combination of education, training and experience).

Compensation

  • Salary Range:  $69,000 – $84,000 annually, plus benefits.
